Dalyan is a small village that lies nestled on a river delta on the south of Turkiyes mediterranean coast. Although Dalyan is inland it is a peaceful but popular holiday destination and renowned for its natural beauty and unique location. Once you discover Dalyan for yourself you will join the many travellers who find it difficult to leave and return year and year again.
Dalyan maybe on a riverbank but it is surrounded by unspoilt scenery, pine clad hills, pomegranate fields, lycian history, wildlife, the caretta turtle and locals who will become your friends.

Each day you here the familiar noise of all the boats heading off down the river and no visit to Dalyan is complete without joining one of these daily tours. The journey down the delta to Iztuzubeach is worth the 45 minute journey. The delta and surrounding area is a National conservation area, thanks to Captain June so you wont find many buildings along the way but you will pass numerous water channels all lined with pampas grass and bulrushes that are bursting with wildlife, the home of numerous species of birds and 2 types of Turtles
You may take the public boat to the beach or head further out to sea to enjoy the unspoilt coastline and beautiful bays on a daily tour boat. The beach is a 5km stretch of unspoilt white sandy beach perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The beach is also a conversation area and one of the nesting grounds for the endangered loggerhead Turtle. You can also access the beach from the other end by car or dolmus if you prefer. Dalyan is also famous for its lycian history, which is evident from the rock tombs that are over 2500 years old and stand proud above the river carved into the mountain side and believed to be the resting place of King Caunos. It is worth a visit over the other side to explore the village of Candir , and the ancient city of Kaunos , nestled behind a mountain the city has seen many visitors over the years since excavation of the site started in 1966 and overlooks the alagol lake , also known as the magic lake for its thermal properties. You can access the other side by the little rowing boats or by one of the two ferries in town. Kaunos was originally by the sea but the harbour fell into disuse and over time silted up and created the Alagol lake.
